If you’re on the hunt for a fool-proof date idea (be it for a new Tinder match or an old love), or even if you’re simply looking for a way to make Monday less blue, you’ll find the answer at The Piano Bar in Cape Town. The intimate musical revue joint starts off the week with a great Date Night special: a choice of four selected tapas and a bottle of house red or white wine for R280.
Considering how moreish the De Waterkant bar’s appetizers are, this is really quite a steal. And you can enjoy them and your wine amidst an environment that manages to be both sophisticated and cosy, stylish and laid-back. With dark lacquered wooden floors, grey walls and soft lighting, the venue’s interior has all the makings of a swanky New York jazz club, but without any pretention. On warm days, you can also settle on the expansive wraparound terrace – you can see Devil’s Peak and the bay from here – or upstairs in the open rooftop nook.

As far as snack options go, you can expect generously portioned bites like croquettes filled with biltong, cheese or smoked snoek; bobotie with creamy yoghurt curry; Oriental pork balls; beef or vegetable samoosas; salmon tartare; and slow-roasted pulled lamb tacos with minted tzatziki and salsa.
If you book for between 4pm and 6pm, you can also enjoy the daily 2-for-1 happy hour special on selected cocktails (we recommend the Piano’s Rose), wine, beer, tequila and tapas. And if you stay on past 7:30pm, you’ll catch relaxed live music performed by a solo artist (genres vary from jazz and classical to folk and Indie-pop).
At the end of the day, it’s a complete offering that you’d be hard-pressed to find elsewhere in Cape Town’s city centre, especially on a Monday evening. And it’s an experience that’ll no doubt go down well with any new match or old flame.

BOOKING INFO FOR THE MONDAY DATE NIGHT SPECIAL AT THE PIANO BAR
The R280 Monday Date Night special is available from open to close, and booking a table in advance is highly recommended (only inside tables can be booked; the terrace works on a first-come-first-served basis). To make a reservation, call +27 (0)21 418 1096 or email bookings@thepianobar.co.za.
