The practice of yoga started in India over seven thousand years ago, and has even found home in some Eastern religions like Buddism and Hinduism. Yoga combines physicality and spirituality in order to achieve moksha (liberation).
On Thursday, 2 February 2017 at 5pm, Dance Yoga is hosting their first workshop of the year. Squeeze yourself into your yoga pants and get dancing with the expert ladies that know exactly how to whip your butt into shape after the season of indulgence.
Dance Yoga specialises in ‘transformational Indian dance’ and the healing aspects of this practice. It is a great way to get fit (and to keep fit once you’re there). It takes a special kind of confidence to get up and walk into the gym, tight leggings on with your bumpy bits in full view and not have a meltdown. Dance yoga is the answer to this problem – committing to an exercise regime is daunting, especially when you are staring into months of monotonous gym trips – because it has one thing that plenty of exercises lack; fun.
Dancing in public is not something everyone in the world is comfy with, but the best part about classes like Dance Yoga is that everyone feels equally as uncomfortable! Have a look at some dance yoga for a little taste of what you’re in for:
The very talented lady in this video (Tamara Levinson-Campos) is clearly a very advanced yoga dancer, so please don’t be put off. She is the end point, and this class is for beginners.
BOOKINGS FOR THE 2017 DANCE YOGA WORKSHOP IN CLAREMONT
Bookings can be made online via their Facebook page – Dance Yoga. There is no word yet on how much these classes cost, but get into contact and see what other workshops are on offer in 2017! This event will be hosted at the ETA college in Rondebosch.
