Cape Town’s top African drumming experience now with a sunset braai

A layered story of South Africa’s musical traditions

Last updated: Tuesday, 25 November 2025

It’s not everyday you get to watch performers who have opened for the Beijing Olympics, played on Broadway and shared the stages with artists like Shakira, Will.I.Am, Dolly Parton and Linkin Park.

This world-class cast leads guests into a South African dinner experience unlike anything else in Cape Town: A wine tasting, sunset braai with live marimba music, and the world's first interactive African drum-theatre show.

GLOBAL SENSATION IN CAPE TOWN

Drumstruck has been seen by millions across the world, and their performers are considered among the best in the country. These multi-talented singers, percussionists, dancers and drummers have spent decades performing for royalty, presidents, and celebrities like Prince Charles, Nelson Mandela, Nicole Kidman, and Karl Lagerfeld.

The show you’ll watch is hosted inside an intimate theatre on Silvermist Wine Estate and isn’t just a “drumming show”, it’s a layered story of South Africa’s musical traditions.

Inside the theatre (which doubles as a museum), you’ll see and hear rare instruments like kudu horns, the Uhadi bow, marimbas, Pedi pipes, and fragile Lesotho wind instruments. One of the most moving moments is the playing of the thunderous God Drum, a point where guests are invited to wish for something positive in their lives.

SUNSET BRAAI & SHOW

While Cape Town has many dining experiences, it’s easy to see why Drumstruck’s dinner show is the one visitors and locals choose over and over.

The evening starts at 4.30pm with a tasting of four Silvermist wines (or homemade iced teas), hosted by the winemaker or sommelier. As you sip, the cast performs traditional songs and the sweeping views of Constantia Valley unfold before you.

Once you move inside the theatre, the interactive show begins at 5pm, where each guest receives a drum. The 30-minute show is half performance, half participation, where you learn rhythms and hear stories of South Africa’s musical roots.

From 6pm, guests gather for a generous sunset braai of flame-grilled chops, chicken, boerewors, pap, chakalaka, salads, garlic bread and dessert. Vegetarian and halaal options are available.

Throughout the evening, all of this is set to the sound of South Africa’s leading marimba ensemble led by Zama Qambi and Lungelwa Mdivasi, who play uplifting classics like “Malaika”, “Summertime”, and traditional Xhosa dance songs.

FAMILY-FRIENDLY LUNCH

The lunchtime experience follows the same structure: Wine tasting at 12pm, Drumstruck show at 12.30pm, and braai with marimbas from 1.30pm to 3pm.

It’s especially popular with families, thanks to the space for kids to explore the lawns, play soccer or swingball, and meet the farm’s goats, pigs, geese, sheep and rabbits.

Children as young as three years old sit through the show easily because it’s constantly changing and visually captivating.

REVIEWS (DOLLY PARTON LOVED IT!)

Country music icon Dolly Parton said, “I am dumbstruck over Drumstruck. They will get your hearts beating.” As Drumstruck marks another triumphant return to Silvermist Wine Estate, here are some more reviews:

Learnt so much about my own country
“I thought we were going for a typical dinner and a show... It was so much more! I learnt so much about instruments from my own country. My kids had the best time too! The best evening out we have had in a long time.” – Shane Brassell (Google Reviews).

So much more than drumming
“Our kids played happily on the lawn while we enjoyed the experience. The show was so much more than simply drumming on djembe drums — it was an incredible journey through authentic African instruments, their origins, and their uses.” – Nicolene D (Tripadvisor).

Unlike anything else you’ve seen
“From start to finish, it was mind-blowing - the people, the music, the story, the creativity and the ability to be interactive with the performers and each other make this show unlike any other you’ve ever seen.” – Cat Sandell (Google Reviews)

One of the best events I’ve ever attended
“Easily one of the best events I’ve ever attended. The artists and performers are exceptionally talented, blending captivating vocals, acting skills, and mesmerising musical artistry.” – Smeetha (Tripadvisor).

Absolutely essential Cape Town experience
“The performers were so engaging and passionate - they had the whole room participating and enjoying themselves. If you're visiting Cape Town, this is an absolutely essential experience. I am even considering a second visit before we leave.” – Josh Lynch (Google Reviews)
