From Friday, 1 to Sunday, 3 September 2017, Bot River will come alive for their annual Over the Rainbow Spring Weekend festival. This small Overberg town will light up with a multitude of sensational events covering wine, food and country fun!
The theme this year is ‘Over the Rainbow’, and it truly embodies the essence of our great nation, and Bot River itself. The residents have organised a huge array of exciting and vibrant activities that the whole family can enjoy. The hoards of wine estates in the area will welcome guests with open arms and allow them to explore their grounds, taste their wine and sample some of the local produce that they like to showcase. The local farmers will put their best foot forward to show their visitors what true and authentic farm produce looks and tastes like.
WHAT TO LOOK FORWARD AT THE 2017 BOT RIVER OVER THE RAINBOW SPRING WEEKEND
Friday, 1 September 2017
On the first day of the festival, Forage Restaurant on Wildekrans Wine Estate, is hosting a wine paired banquet that no true vino lover would dare miss! The head chef, Gregory Henderson, will whip up a delectable meal made to showcase all the sensational produce that the farms in Bot River can grow. In collaboration with Higgo Jacobs (Head of the SA Association of Sommeliers) and Ewan Mackenzie (another sommelier), they will develop a meal that pairs perfectly with the amazing wines they’ve selected for the feast. We can already feel our tastebuds tingling!
Saturday, 2 September 2017
On Saturday, the Bot River wineries will open to the public for a day of sipping and swirling their amazing wines. You’ll be treated to wine tastings and pairings across all of the wine farms involved in the festival, including Arcangeli Family Vineyards, Barton Vineyards, Villion Wines, Luddite Wines, Genevieve MCC, Beaumont Family Wines, Gabrielskloof Wine Estate, Rivendell Estate, PaardenKloof Estate and Maremmana Estate.
Sunday, 3 September 2017
On Sunday, treat yourself to a mouthwatering Sunday lunch at one of the stunning restaurants based on all of the wine farms. They all use local produce, and have dishes that have been developed especially to go with their wines. Take a load off at Paardenkloof Ecology Lifestyle Farm when they have an evening of pizza, live jazz and sundowners; what a perfect end to a perfect weekend!
Bot River is not too far away from Cape Town (two hours to be exact), but if you’re looking to indulge in a weekend of wining and dining, then spending the weekend out there just makes sense. We have a section on accommodation options that will help you find the perfect place, or visit the Bot River Wines website (Botriverwines.co.za) for their list of B&Bs and guest houses in the area.
TICKETS TO THE 2017 BOT RIVER OVER THE RAINBOW SPRING WEEKEND
Tickets are available online for R100/p and include a wine glass and an armband which will get you access to all of the events!
