Sundays are for sleeping late, strolling along Cape Town’s scenic greenways, sitting by the sea and, of course, celebrating life with friends, family and loved ones. And if you’re looking for a place to truly do the lazy day justice, there are few better spots than Blues Restaurant in Camps Bay.
Perched above the chaos of the famous beachside suburb’s main drag, the long-time eatery boasts uninterrupted views of the white sand crescent below and the sparkling Atlantic beyond – and regardless of whether you’re sitting outside on the balcony amidst the salt air or within the buzzing restaurant’s interior, you’ll have a breathtaking front row vista.
The space, with its blue and beige striped chairs, shell chandeliers and whitewashed wooden floors, channels an eternal summer, beach house-y vibe, and as the case would be if you were spending the afternoon in a bungalow on watery shores, seafood is the order of the day
Hauled fresh out of the ocean, shellfish, linefish, tuna, salmon and calamari dominate the menu offering. And when the sun is out and the weather’s warm (as it tends to be in Cape Town summer), this kind of lighter Sunday lunch always trumps the traditional roast chicken or leg of lamb. Though, if you can’t see out the weekend without that kind of hearty fare, you’ll be happy to hear that Blues also serves up sirloin, lamb chops, venison and more. There are even salads and pastas for those only feeling a bit peckish.
Pair the eats with one of the restaurant’s signature cocktails or order a bottle of sparkling and get comfortable. Sunsets are also for Sundays, and you should definitely watch all the dusky drama play out from your table as Blues is open until 11pm.
