A theatre in Kayamandi township in Stellenbosch serves up great food and entertainment
The lively production of AmaZink Live in Kayamandi, a township on the outskirts of Stellenbosch, is on until August 2014. It’s a great night out; a dinner and show hosted in the AmaZink Theatre, which gives visitors an unforgettable taste of township culture and cuisine.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE 2014 AMAZINK LIVE TOWNSHIP DINNER THEATRE IN KHAYAMANDI
THE SHOW: It started three years ago, and so the story has been evolving. At its core, however, is the tale of a township trio – tavern owner Musa Mavundla, his wife and manager Patricia Jones and her cousin Fix Marwana – who save their shebeen from closure through music. It’s also about their personal highs and lows. Audiences come because they love the dramatic scenes between the three and the musical moments shared throughout the evening.
THE PERFORMERS: The show stars O'Ryan Winter, Tebogo Louw and Ramaine Barreiro-Lloyd, who are supported by a 10-piece chorus. Apart from Barrerio-Lloyd and Winter, the cast is drawn from the community of Kayamandi, who go through intense workshops to deliver this vibrant and high-energy show.
THE FOOD: To give both local and international guests a taste of authentic township hospitality, the chefs offer their own version of a South African favourite, the potjie. Apart from the food and theatre, guests can browse the craft market for gifts or join in the fun of a rhythmic drum circle.
THE VENUE: The eatery holds 120 and the amphitheatre can carry up to 400 people. The outdoor arena offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains of Stellenbosch, so it’s the perfect spot for functions, like end-of-year parties, birthdays and weddings.

Tickets for the show cost R200p/p; a cash bar is available and guests can order from the a la carte menu.
