Broadway brilliance on Cape Town’s ...
Fast-paced musical full of disguises, drama and delightful chaos
Don’t miss out on the chance to catch Mzansi’s finest hip-hop stars, AKA and Da LES, turn up the heat at Bennett Street (formerly known as Trinity Nightclub) on Friday, 8 August 2014.
The big bash, brought to you by Head Honcho and Hunters Extreme, comes after the release of the duo’s latest albums (Levels and Mandela Money, respectively), and promises to be a most memorable night.
AKA (Kiernan Forbes) shot to fame on South African charts with smash hits like Victory Lap and All I Know. The Cape Town-born artist started his career as a member of the rap group Entity and has since collaborated with artists like Khuli Chana, Loyiso Bala and Proverb. His debut album, Altar Ego, was awarded “Best Produced Album” by the Metro FM Music Awards, and he was also the recipient of both the “Best Street Urban Music Album” and “Male Artist of the Year” at the 18th South African Music Awards (SAMA) in 2012. AKA has had the honour of opening for a number of famed international artists during their tours to Mzansi, including Kanye West, Snoop Lion, Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, Big Sean and Kendrick Lamar. His latest album, Levels, features chart-topping tracks like Congratulate and Run Jozi.
Da LES (Leslie Mampe) was born in Washington, DC but moved to South African in 1993. The artist came onto the local scene in 2005 when he formed part of the crunk group Jozi – an award-winning outfit that racked up multiple MOBO (Music of Black Origin) Awards in the London. His solo debut album, Fresh2Def, was released by Ghetto Ruff Records in 2008 and includes popular tracks like On Fire and Tippy Toes. His new album, Mandela Money, hit iTunes in June 2014 and features hits like Dice and No Kidding.
The pair will be supported by Fanatic, Ph, Franky, Lyle, Phil and Luwayne Wonder.
For newcomers to Bennett Street, this super-sized, state-of-the-art club is also home to African-themed GOLD Restaurant and frequently hosts electro and live music events.
