We know all of you ‘looking-for-a-cause, pseudo-intellectual’ types who identify a little too deeply with the plight of ‘the impressionist movement’ (yes hipsters, that means you) start frothing at the mouth anytime Absinthè is mentioned; so take heed, from Thursday, 12 July until Sunday, 15 July Absinthè – the band – is performing in various venues in Cape Town and surrounds.
The culmination of the lead singers of Wonderboom (Cito) and Sugardrive (Paul E. Flynn), AbsinthèAbsinthe specialises in intimate, acoustic musical intoxications. Think the Rat Pack crossed with a Bohemian James Dean.
Cito and Paul E Flynn provide the vocals and the acoustic and classical guitar influence, while ex-Martin Rocka, Sick Shop drummer and former DJ, Paulo Rego, brings in the light backbeat. Their style is laid-back and comfortable. So much so, that audience members are encouraged to have dinner while they, ahem, rock-out. (See following four performance dates for more details)
Expect old favourites like Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen), Clocks (Coldplay), On Call (Kings of Leon), Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve), Love Will Tear Us Apart (Joy Division); as well as Absinthè’s own renditions of Who Wants to Live Forever (Queen) and Condemnation (Depeche Mode), to name but a few. Some other unplugged surprises will also likely make for a memorable evening.
A more mature entertainment option for the discerning audience, the Absinthè dinnershow experience is not only about paying tribute to a certain way of life, it’s also about appreciating unforgettable music in intimate settings.
The band is currently fine-tuning their debut CD, ‘A Rendezvous at Nirvana’ which, in true Absinthè style, was recorded live.
