2011’s Open Book Festival promises to be the ‘biggest boek jol’ the city has ever seen, and takes place in the iconic District Six from 21st to 25th September 2011.
If the lineup is any sort of litmus test for the validity of such a statement (of course it is silly), then this literary fair will be full of (French )flair.
Amongst the impressive list of authors who will be there to disseminate genius are Nobel Prize winner and author of over 36 works JMG Le Clezio, Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Harding, the omnipresent and Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best Book Prize winner Earl Lovelace and the accomplished Jeanette Winterson.
Open Book Cape Town is organised in partnership with the UK’s Hay Festival of Literature and the Arts, SA PEN, the French Institute, Equal Education and GIPCA.
The hub of the festival will be located in the foyer of the Fugard Theatre, with a large number of the events being held there. Other venues will be used including; The District Six Museum, The Homecoming Centre, some of the IZIKO spaces and the Townhouse Hotel.
