A Love Supreme - The Saxophone Summit

Featuring three of the South Africa's top Saxophone players

Three of South Africa’s top Saxophone players will be set up at the Lounge 021 @ Swingers on the 27 July 2008.

It promises to be an amazing jazz display with Mark Fransman, Ivan Mazuze and Buddy Wells, doing their best to show off South African talent.

Winner of the Standard Bank
Young Artist Award for Jazz 2008, FNB Vita Award for most outstanding performer in musical theatre 1995/96 for his role in Kramer Petersen’s Kat and the Kings.

Mark Fransman has
performed on international stages in Europe at the Euro d' Afrique Festival in Italy along with Yusuf N'dour and Papa Wemba, the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Hague in 2000 and 2002 and the Swedish Jazz Celebration in Stockholm, Sweden in 2006.

Ivan Mazuze who was born and educated partly in Maputo came to Cape Town in 2000, where he is currently based.

Ivan obtained the Performers Diploma in music (jazz studies) in 2002, and was awarded a distinction in jazz ensemble and jazz improvisation at the University of Cape Town (UCT).

In 2005 he obtained a bachelor of music (Honours) in performance, awarded in the first class (distinction) at UCT. In 2006 he graduated with a Master’s degree in musicology at UCT.

To add to these great musicians, Buddy Wells, who is a well-known figure in South African Jazz and has been for quite some time, will be performing as well.

He has played all over the world and is one of the best Saxophonists this country has to offer, with a unique sound and a beautifully subtle and heartfelt approach to improvisation.

Known for his work
with 'tribe', he has played with Judith Sephuma, Moses Mololekwa, Manu Dibango, Miriam Makeba, Bheki Mseleku, Simpiwe Dana, Joe McBride, Flat Stanley, Ernie Smith, Abdullah Ibrahim, Gloria Bosman and Alou April amongst many others.

The three will each play an individual set, and then share the stage in a major finale that promises to be nothing short of dynamite.
