Eclectica Design and Art Presents ‘Dream Rift’

Brush away all the facts, and journey to a world connected by dreams and realities

Explore the visual journey of contemporary art at Eclectica Design and Art in the gallery’s spring exhibition titled ‘Dream Rift’, which opens on Thursday, 7 September 2017.

Eclectica Design and Art showcase the finest in contemporary South African art, with the objective to present work that is as engaging as it is different and enticing – for both collectors and fine art enthusiasts.

The theme of the Spring show, ‘Dream Rift’, looks at the connection between dreams and realities, and the alternation between the visual, verbal and textual. Visitors to the exhibition are invited to explore the evolving understanding of contemporary art practice by entering the world each painting takes you to.

The name of the exhibition is inspired by Belgium surrealist artist Rene Magritte’s extensive body of work, with a particular emphasis on his “key to dreams”.

For this exhibition artists, Ben Coutouvidis and Jaco Sieberhagen steer clear of three-dimensional work by exploring more emotive concepts through the realism of art. Rosemary Joynt and Alet Swarts, on the other hand, confront reality and dreams by playing with realism in their paintings, while comparing their concepts to a discourse of the future of painting.

Today it is the artists, as problem solvers and future thinkers, who visualise possible dreams and make them realities. Mark Rautenbach consistently explores the unexplainable world in his mixed media works, while Polokwane-born artist Amelia Malaatjie’s work unravels the friction in the media through her creations, pairing different textures, representations and materials.
