A collector’s hub and thrifter’s wonderland in Simonstown

Aliens, dinosaurs, superheroes and an ostrich - find them at the top of the stairs

“The best view comes after the hardest climb”, well…according to Collectables Hub and Cafe it is. Tucked away at the top of a long, narrow staircase in Simonstown is a treasure trove bursting with retro memorabilia, collectables and quirky statues. All with a sea view of Simonstown Harbour from the cafe deck.

EXPLORE THE ANTIQUE COLLECTABLES

Derrick, the plastic concierge awaits you at the entrance holding a sign that reads “Awesome coffee, stunning views all upstairs waiting for you”, so it’s not hard to imagine what you’re getting yourself into when heading to the top of this two-storey building.

You can’t miss the bright yellow staircase and gates at the entrance. Image: Collectables Hub and Cafe

Upon entering, you’ll be greeted with a large red London phone booth, a dinosaur fossil, a pink lion's head, a gigantic electric guitar and an ostrich named Suzi. And that’s just where it begins. Wander through aisles, lit up with neon lights, decked with miniature cars and comic book memorabilia.

Look forward to new stock, with each visit! Image: Collectables Hub and Cafe

One room, painted in shades of hot pink, is dedicated to a thrift ware store with vintage swimwear, designer clothing and more. Or get cosy in the book nook that offers a selection of collectable books including militaria, design, art and more.

EAT CAKE WITH HARBOUR VIEWS

All this exploring may work up an appetite, so why not make use of the scenic ocean view. Sit outside on the deck and enjoy a selection of freshly baked cakes (the carrot cake is said to be a winner) and other patisseries. You can make a day of it, order a cup of coffee or hot chocolate and cheese toasted sandwich, while you play a round of board games with your friends.

There’s a few washed-out picnic tables and fun stools on the deck that get plenty of sun. Image: Collectables Hub and Cafe

BRING YOUR DOGS, TOO

While you’re there, say hello to Bailey, the shop manager. She loves attention and a belly rub and isn’t opposed to a treat…did we mention she’s a labrador? Dogs are welcome to join you for lunch or when wandering around the space. You may even find Harvey, the resident dog that pops in frequently.

There’s something for the whole family to enjoy, from children to your dogs. Image: Collectables Hub and Cafe
