See Yo Yo Ma In Cape Town

Renowned cellist brings his Bach Project to the beautiful Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens

Yo-Yo Ma, the renowned cellist and classical composer, has made Cape Town the second last stop on his two-year-long Bach Project.

The solo cellist will be playing Johann Sebastien Bach’s Six Suites For Solo Cello at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens on Saturday, 8 February.


THE BACH PROJECT
Bach’s Six Suites for Cello are some of the first pieces of music Yo-Yo Ma played when he started at the young age of four. In 2018, he started a world tour with a goal of playing all six cello suites in 36 locations around the world. He plays the pieces completely off memory.


During each stop on his tour, Ma works with cultural and community leaders and local organisations to create unique public events and creative experiences for that location.

Yo-Yo Ma has 90 albums and 18 Grammy awards to his name and has recorded with the likes of Carlos Santana, James Taylor and renowned composer Ennio Morricone.

The Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts will continue on the Sunday after Yo-Yo Ma’s performance, and local rap star AKA is set to bring his hits to the botanical gardens.
