Fantasy freaks and gaming geeks, get ready to don your best cosplay costume and play your heart out. The Canal Walk Gaming Expo, held in the Centre Court of Canal Walk Shopping Centre is being hosted from Tuesday, 24 to Sunday, 29 October 2017. The event, powered by Good Hope FM and BT Games, will see gamers, cosplayers, techies and the like come together for six days in geek-heaven. With over R25 000 in prizes to be won, you won’t want to miss it.
Saturday, 28 October 2017 will be dedicated to cosplay, with a competition and parade happening between 12pm and 4:30pm. Guests can dress up as their favourite anime or sci-fi character and enter the competition for best cosplay costume. This year, the prize for first place is R2500 worth of Canal Walk gift vouchers, second place is R1750 and third place is R1000. The novice category, for first time cosplayers, sees the ultimate winner walk away with R1000 in shopping vouchers, second place will receive R500 and third place will receive a hamper.

Anyone that has been to the gaming expo before will know that the FIFA Tournament is a big deal. With R23 000 in prizes up for grabs, the competition will be fiercer as more gamers will be vying for a shot at victory. Qualifying rounds are on Friday, 27 and Saturday, 28 October 2017, and anyone that wants to take part needs to register online well in advance. There are only 128 spots available for competitive gamers, so enter soon to increase your chance of being selected. Players who make it to the final is on Sunday, 29 October 2017 stand a chance to walk away with R10,000 cash and a brand-new PlayStation 4 Pro console (worth R8000). Second prize will receive R5000 and a copy of the brand new PS4 game - GT Sport. Third prize will receive R3000 and a copy of the brand new PS4 game - GT Sport.
This year’s expo will boast a massive selection of gaming products, new release games and more, giving you the chance to find the perfect Christmas present for your nerdy friend, family member or loved one. In fact, Nintendo will be releasing Super Mario Odyssey at the expo! Guests will even get a sneak peak on what the developers are working on releasing next.
