The Kitchen at Weylandts Green Point

Relax with good friends over great food in furniture and homeware shopping heaven

It’s now perfectly possible to take a time-out from homeware shopping to, well, make yourself at home in between cruising the aisles for contemporary furniture at Weylandts Green Point, one of the leading décor and furniture retailers in South Africa.

The addition of The Kitchen, a chic fusion bistro already popular in the Durbanville and Kramerville Weylandts branches, will give Cape Town city centre shoppers the opportunity to relax with good friends over great food in a design-inspired eatery.

At the helm, Head Chef Charlene Pretorius: a self-professed student of the Slow Food Movement and an up-and-coming culinary all-star looking to make her mark on the South African cuisine scene.

“I keep my food unique, simple, honest and true to its sources,” she said when quizzed about what kind of fare furniture shopping-fatigued diners could expect. “The food at The Kitchen will speak for itself.”

More specifically, restaurant-goers can look forward to a gamut of fresh, seasonal ingredients prepared to order, and can count on a constant barrage of new options made with homegrown building blocks, many of which will be supplied by the Weylandts Franshhoek estate.

The summer menu includes inventive salads (like the Franschhoek Trout Gravadlax Salad), heavenly homebaked pastries and scones (including The Kitchen’s Signature Banana Bread) and more substantial staples like a ‘Posh’ Beef Burger and a Spring Vegetable Lasagna. Freshly-pressed juices, carefully-made coffees and even homemade lemonade are also on the bill for those parched, but not necessarily peckish.

Officially open for business in September 2012, the signature culinary experience aims to compliment the “inspired merchandising” and “innovative designs” of the three-level Cape Town city centre destination store. The Kitchen will look to stand atop the same pillars of quality, sustainability and value that Weylandts has built a legacy on.
