Discover this epic Texan-style smokehouse in Cape Town
The Hoghouse Barbeque Garage is Cape Town’s new beloved Texan-style smokehouse giving patrons the ultimate American BBQ experience. Adding a bit of extra spice to our classic South African braaivleis tradition, expect a new alternative method of cooking with fire.
The restaurant brings all its visitors a new style menu to look at - a menu that is based on, ‘low and slow’ style meats which are cooked over several hours. Expect your meat to have been looked after from dawn to dusk, all in preparation to be served to you with a variety of side dishes and can be enjoyed in the restaurant or in the taproom upstairs.
Interestingly you can choose how much you want to spend, as the barbeque meats are priced per 100 grams of cooked weight - showing its resemblance to the Texas BBQ restaurants. Your meat is first smoked before any sauces are infused to the meat, which allows the natural flavours of your meat to blend with the smoke from the Rooikrans wood.
One of the unique aspects of this smokehouse is the wood-fired grill used for the chicken dishes and vegetables, catering for diners who prefer a little less smoke. The focus for produce is to be locally sourced, free-range and that the farming practices are considerate of animal and environmental welfare.
The restaurant is all for family-style eating so try going with eight or more people in order to have a variety of platters to eat from, creating a real interactive dining experience. The restaurant, built in an old garage, has a view of the brewery and has a relaxed and cosy, yet industrial style with a wood burning fireplace.
We love the family-style approach to the restaurant - you’ll get to taste so many dishes this way!
Tip: Definitely book a table in advance, as it is busy and walk-ins might not get a seat.
Note: There is secure parking inside the complex and ample overflow parking across the road on the grass.
Opening Times: Monday - Saturday: (Kitchen) 5pm - 9pm; (Last Drink Rounds) 11pm; Sunday: Closed
