Good Friends, Family and All That Jazz on the Lawns in Durbanville

Postponed: Come see local high school jazz bands play everything from oldies to modern hits while you picnic in a beautiful setting with a sushi platter, gourmet burger and more

End off the weekend with a relaxing picnic lunch and live jazz with the family on the pristine lawns of the Bon Amis Restaurant at Bloemendal Wine Estate on Sunday 28 April.

IN THE BEGINNING
Music educator Dean Flanagan decided to bring together schools from around Cape Town to showcase their musical talent. So he organised the first music picnic, which played to a sold-out audience. 

This year the venue is expanding its capacity and tickets are selling fast. Flanagan dreams of continuing the event annually for as long as he can to showcase the musical talent of as many different school bands as possible.

THE ENTERTAINMENT
The music ranges from golden oldies to recent chart toppers. Each band brings their own unique flavour to the programme, which usually includes a mix of rock, pop, jazz and contemporary music. Four local school jazz bands from Elkanah House, Parklands College, Milnerton High and The Settlers High School will be performing.

REFRESHMENTS
Picnic lunches will be on sale and there'll be a cash bar (no food or drink from outside sources is allowed). You can expect sushi platters, burgers, gourmet hotdogs, chocolate brownies and a selection of Bloemendal wines. Cash and cards are accepted.

ABOUT THE VENUE
The event takes place on the lawns of the Bon Amis Restaurant at the Bloemendal Wine Estate in Durbanville. The French term bon amis translates as “good friends”; a fitting term to considering the friendly collaboration that made this event possible. There’s a wide open picnic area with a wonderful kid’s section featuring shaded jungle gyms, swings and face painting. Children can bring swimwear for some fun on the water slide and you can bring your picnic blanket, camping chairs and sun umbrellas for a fun day out with the family. The performance takes place on a raised area, making viewing and hearing easy. There are gazebos in some areas for extra shade if needed. Because there’s no reserved seating, you may secure a place early when gates open at 11:30am.
