Restaurants at the V&A Waterfront

A selection of the best restaurants at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town

Since the 17th Century, the V&A Waterfront has become the pinnacle of Cape Town’s tourism industry. Set in the majestic surroundings of the Robben Island, Table Mountain and the sparkling ocean, its magnetism draws visitors from all over the world. But it’s not just the views alone that have international tongues salivating – it’s also the outstanding cuisine. You’ll find everything from Japanese, to Hungarian, to Italian to South African at the V&A Waterfront. Once again, CapeTownMagazine.com has overcome the impossible.  We’ve selected a selection of the best, from a selection of the best.

Cape Town Fish Market
Characterized by historical photographs of fishing harbours, this restaurant is the ideal pit stop after shopping with the girls. It offers a combination of South African and Japanese dishes including; a sushi train with colour coded plates and tepanyaki, where you can watch the chef prepare food on an iron grill. Complement sumptuous seafood with a glass of South African wine.

Quay Four
Quay four is an ideal place to unwind, offering relaxed wooden tables and live music. If you’re after Cape Lobster or Peanut and Sweet Chili Calamari, there’s a secret restaurant hidden away upstairs. Read more about how Quay Four Has Been Destressing Capetonian's Since 1991

Sevruga
Sevruga has fine dining written all over it and has even played host to a celebrity or two. Think fresh fish, extra-matured steak and master sushi chef Alan Huang. The menu is every bit as mouth watering including; shellfish platters, caviar and sushi specials. Stick to your South African roots with Lindt Chocolate Springbok, accompanied by pommes cocottes, wild mushrooms, chocolate and port jus. Savour every moment.

Green Dolphin
Ralph Schulman’s Green Dolphin serves up a continental helping of seafood including, platters with crayfish, prawns, line fish, mussels and calamari. Wang Thai
Wang Thai is all about experience; where majestic design features meet highly trained master chefs and ingredients directly imported from Thailand. You can actually see the chefs at work via an exhibition kitchen at this water-facing eatery. Their green curry comes highly recommended and they also whip up some mean cocktails.

Willoughby & Co.
You can guaruntee this restaurant will be packed, because Willoughby is, by no means, your average sushi restaurant. Asian chefs are constantly dreaming up unique dishes such as, Rainbow Reloaded and soft-shell crab with Panzu sauce. This restaurant is also easy on the wallet.

221
221 is by no means a themed restaurant – rather it is contemporary chic, which attracts diners looking for an international feel. Not only does 221 offer over 100 South African wines, but their specialty221 Grilled Fillet, finished with Blue Cheese sauce and toasted cashew nuts, is simply divine. For a cosy winter meal, request a table next to their roaring fireplace.Read more about how 221 stands out at the V&A Waterfront

Paulaner Bräuhaus & Restaurant
O'zapft is! The Paulaner Bräuhaus brings together not just locals but people from all over the world. They serve exclusively Bavarian specialties such Pretzel, Obatzda and Weisswurst. The copper brew kettles with their shiny pipelines and fittings are an impressive eye-catcher. They reflect the hustle and bustle of the brewery and allow guests to experience the brewing process at first hand. The concept is a great success; traditional and yet with a finger on the pulse of the times – the Paulaner Bräuhaus provides a unique combination of century-old Bavarian tradition and modern lifestyle. A restaurant for every occasion.

Mitchell's Scottish Ale House
This is a place “where the party never stops and the beer always flows”! Great location, fun atmosphere, friendly staff and a fully-loaded menu ready to satisfy even the biggest appetite. So you can relax and enjoy the upbeat vibes of the V&A Waterfront combined with amazing views of the Cape Town harbour and Table Mountain. And in the evening why not jump on the dance floor or join for a karaoke night like no other in town! But what makes Mitchell’s truly famous is their wide range of in-house breed beers, such as the Forrester Draught, Bosun's Bitter and Mitchell's 90 Shilling.
