False Bay’s newest restaurant has a jungle gym, great menu and good wine
Glencairn Hotel, set across from the gorgeous Glencairn beach, has added a new restaurant. Barstaurant is a family-friendly restaurant with incredible sea views, a jungle gym and play area, and a delicious new menu. This is the place you can bring the entire family, even the pooches.
Barstaurant is the brainchild of three restaurant veterans, Tintswalo Atlantic’s general managers Ryno and Melissa du Rand, and sushi aficionado Clint Fennel (ex-manager at Willoughby’s for ten years).
Barstaurant has taken over an entire floor area of the Glencairn Hotel and divided it into three primary areas. There’s the most popular choice, the light, bright, covered terrace, but for parents with little kids, the outdoor dining area on the lawn is great, where they can keep an eye on playing children with the added bonus of some fresh air and sunshine. There’s also a cosier option inside the hotel, the sports bar area with an alcove for a more private dining experience.
Barstaurant is specially geared to entertain children. Before the little ones head out to play, let them get their hands “dirty” and make their own pizzas. They'll start from scratch, kneading and rolling out the dough, and then can pick their favourite toppings.
For parents, the chef has put together a drool-worthy menu that includes cut-of-the-week steaks, tacos, deep-fried fish and chips, roasted chicken and wood-fired pizzas. But the real show-stopper is the sushi bar inside.
Sushi aficionado Clint Fennel, formerly of Willoughby’s at the V&A Waterfront, one of Cape Town’s finest sushi restaurants, means that diners can expect top quality.
Pair your dish with a drink of your choice to finish it off. A crisp white wine is a great choice for sushi, but there’s a whole list of vintages and varietals for you to choose from. Plus, they’ve got some beers on tap and craft beers available.
