Urban jungle meets African desert on Bree

Boma: Cactus plants, frozen cocktails, horses and…jaffles?

The best stories, food and moments are found in the glow of an open fire. This we know, as South Africans. A new hot spot on Bree Street (where La Parada used to be), recreates that very ambience. Come sit around the fire, and grab a plate as you’re transported from Karoo to Kalahari at Boma.

EXPERIENCE THE AFRICAN DESERT

This desert-themed restaurant and cocktail lounge brings the African desert to the urban jungle of Bree Street. It’s decorated with natural wood and accented by red lighting, green walls and cactus plants. The kicker are the nooks showcasing life-size horse statues.

When the kitchen door closes at 10pm, it turns into an oasis of weird and wonderful possibilities: A music experience with genres ranging from country and western to lo-fi hip hop and anything in between (strictly 25 and over).

TASTE FLAME-GRILLED FOODS

The decor isn’t the only thing nostalgic about Boma. The restaurant takes you back to family braais or tuckshop lunches. Taste centuries of flavour with dishes like skaap rib, chopped beef sando, chakalaka or tomato rice. There’s also sharing plates for big friend groups (great to try for starters).

Then there’s the classic jaffle – a dish so simple, and so nostalgic, you can’t help but want to try it again. It’s served with 90-day-aged comte, tomato, blatjang and onion. And for dessert, there’s a karoo honey cake, pumpkin churro, and kaas. Yes…kaas.

HANG OUT AT THE COCKTAIL LOUNGE  

The desert theme stretches over to the drinks menu too with specialties like Dusky Desert Delight (Grey Goose, Rooibos tea, roast pineapple) and Cactus Sunset (Tequila, mango, pineapple, camomile tea). You’ll also find classic cocktails, beer and wine.
