Inventive small plates best explored with a wine pairing
The Barleycorn club was founded all the way back in 1975 when a group of musicians found it agreeable to meet regularly, learn from one another and drink lots and lots of beer.
To this day the club - it meets at the Villagers Rugby Club - is run by a group of unpaid volunteers and has played a defining role in the careers of some of South Africans greats, such as David Kramer (who recorded his first CD at the club), Macstanley (formally Flat Stanley), Amapondo, Freshlyground, Steve Newman and Tony Cox, to name a few (it’s a seriously long list).
As a non-profit organisation, the club dedicates all of its income to a trust for the advancement and promotion of local musical talent. Each evening showcases up to four acts.
Line-up for Monday, 25 April 2016:
Get there early to secure your seat. Entrance is R30p/p for members and R40p/p for non-members. The membership fee is R100p/p. Drinks and snacks are available at the club.
