After a successful tour through Europe, The Cape Town Opera's world-famous, award-winning African Angels are back in Cape Town for two nights over the festive season. Prepare to be serenaded by their harmonious blend of voices at the Baxter Theatre on 19 and 21 December.
HEAR THE ANGELS SING
You can expect to hear the stylistic versatility and angelic harmonies that have become synonymous with the Cape Town Opera. The evening will consist of traditional African and opera music, gospel and popular Christmas carols accompanied by piano and a djembe drum, plus the group will be performing famous hits such as Scatterlings Of Africa and Impi as a tribute to the late Johnny Clegg.
AWARD-WINNING DIRECTOR AND PRODUCTION TEAM
The show is directed by Tara Notcutt, who won the Fleur du Cap Award for Best New Director in 2010 and has been nominated for several other prestigious awards, alongside musical directors José Dias and Marvin Kernelle. Kernelle is a judge on the kykNET reality show Varsity Sing and was appointed as the Cape Town Opera’s Chorus Master in 2014. In 2019, he went on to make his debut as a jury member for the European Choir Games. Portuguese-born Dias has been with the Cape Town Opera since 2007, after completing his BMus Honours with cum laude. He is currently completing his PhD in music at UCT.
