L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate at Kenilworth Racecourse
Don your blue and white for one of the most high-profile highlights of the horse racing calendar!
While we may be halfway through the horse-racing season in Cape Town, the much-anticipated 157th L’Ormarins Queen's Plate is the first prestigious equestrian event of 2018. And where better to kick off the new year than at this exclusive affair that marries high fashion and high stakes at the Kenilworth Racecourse on Friday, 5 and Saturday, 6 January 2017.
Enthusiasts will witness the best weight-for-age thoroughbreds and jockeys compete in 10 races during the day, with the main event rewarding its winner with a handsome purse of R1.5 million and a coveted trophy. The Cartier Sceptre Stakes and Jamaica Handicap, taking place the day before the L'Ormarins Queen's Plate, will feature eight races with a final purse of R400 000.
Rated as one of the world’s top five horse-racing events by The Telegraph in Britain, this internationally-recognised and locally-renowned event is one of the most established equestrian to-dos on the international calendar.
This year's event features a double header with the Cartier Sceptre Stakes and Jamaica Handicap taking place on Friday, culminating in the L'Omarins Queen's Plate race happening on Saturday.
This illustrious racing weekend offers up an assortment of lavish entertainment to accompany the thunder of horse hooves round the green, including haute couture competitions, a killer garden party (limited to 500 guests) and an afternoon filled with celeb shoulder-rubbing and schmoozing.
