The well-known American mega-convention Comic Con attracts thousands of self-confessed geeks and lovers of the comic and fantasy culture industry. Now, in its fourth year, South Africans can revel in the madness that is FanCon – a two-day comic convention taking place at the CTICC in the CBD from Saturday 27 April to Sunday 28 April 2019.

LIVE COMIC CREATION, LAUNCHES AND STATUES
See local and international artists as they draw, design and animate their comics. Meet the authors and grab a few signed comics at one of the multiple comic book launches. Rare vintage and original comics will also be showcased, as well as life-size statues and models of famous comic book characters.

GAMING, TALKS AND MEET AND GREETS
Hoping for a bit more action? No problem, there will be a gaming zone where you can compete in casual or competitive board games and console competitions.
If you’re more interested in learning, you can attend one of the panel talks where guests such as local satirical artist Zapiro and British comic book artist John Higgins, who has worked on Judge Dredd and Batman comics, will do talks.
Also attending is Loyiso Mkize, the creator of local comic book Kwezi, and two local artists with international cred in Jason Masters and Sean Izaakse. Both have done work for Marvel Comics, while Masters has worked on DC comics as well.
When the talks are done, you can attend the guest meet and greet to chat to some of the guests and even get your comic book signed.
