Formula One in Cape Town
Is the Grand Prix saying goodbye to Bahrain and hello to South Africa?
We leave the hard news to newspapers, so instead we're looking at the elements that would rock Cape Town’s Grand Prix. Just think, within two years you may be able to see Sebastian Vettel squeeze past …
We think that Bernie Ecclestone, president and CEO of Formula One Management and Formula One Administration, would say that Cape Town may bring the Formula One Grand Prix to South Africa with a street circuit that will tease and squeeze the tarmac in a way never before.
We hope that he would be the host of the F1 Grand Prix, and a street circuit will see Red Bull, McLaren et al, wear out theirPirelli Tyres on Cape Town’s ocean edge.
The proposed track for the Cape Town Grand Prix
The F1 track would go through Mouille Point, Cape Town Stadium, Green Point’s Hertzog Boulevard, and via the V&A Waterfront, and back to Beach Road.
We saw the Red Bull F1 car in Cape Town earlier this year, and South Africa’s Formula One fans we’re given a taste of the real thing at Killarney and Kyalami with Top Gear. But seriously, can you imagine the worldwide coverage of Cape Town during the Grand Prix season? Goodbye Bahrain, and hello Cape Town.
