It's no secret that the Cape Winelands are famous for producing world-class wines but these fertile valleys and mountain ranges are also home to a collection of delightful small towns and communities. Markets in the Cape Winelands are all about keeping it local from organic produce grown under the Mediterranean climate, to designers and charismatic markets sellers. You'll find that many of the markets in the Cape Winelands support their local community via initiatives for local producers and innovative school children, or educating the surrounding community.
The Hearth Fair
Every first Saturday of the month visit between 9am and 4pm (Hearth Fair will be closing at 1:30pm during winter time) for a showcase of local designers, artists, local producers and fresh suppliers. The collective of individuals believe in the equality of all arts and take great pleasure in their work.

Stellenbosch Organic Farmers Market
This farmers market is packed with organic natural produce and all proceeds go towards emerging producers and educating the local community. Visit between 8am and 12pm every Saturday to buy organic vegetables and fruit, hearty breakfasts and home-industry-style cakes and preserves.

Laborie Lazy Days Market

Spier’s Craft Market
Visit this market for contemporary and traditional artworks by local crafters. Open daily between 10am and 6pm during summer and between 10:30am and 5:30pm during winter, expect a selection of quality textiles, woodwork, ceramics, African bead work, crafted pottery and handmade Nguni-style tapestries woven by women from the Keiskamma Embroidery project (Eastern Cape).

Franschhoek Farmers Market
On the second Saturday of every month, between 9am and 3pm, the relaxed gardens at the Holden Manz Wine Estate are ideal surroundings for a family get together. Browse 10 stalls of locally grown produce, including wine, bread, pate and quiche. Linger a while longer and you'll be treated to a delicious lunctime braai.

Stellenbosch Slow Food Market
In today's fast living society people often have a tendency to eat fast, but it's important not to lose sight of the processes and products that go into your food. Set in the slopes of the Papegaaiberg you will encounter a market dedicated to locally grown food with no warehousing or distribution. Visit between 10am and 2pm every Saturday and catch a show at nearby Oude Libertas Theatre afterwards.

Family Farmers Market at Lourensford Wine Estate
Nominated in Eat In Magazines 'Best Market' catergory of its Produce Awards for 2011 this market is home to delicious foods including breads, pastries, trout, cakes, vegetables and Bratwurst as well as a variety of wine, jewellery, plants and clothing. Visit between 9am and 4pm on the first Saturday and Sunday of every month to relax in their stunning gardens with an alfresco lunch whilst listening to live music. Pure Boland Farmers Market
Every first Saturday of the month between 9am and 3pm visit this delightful indoor and outdoor local producers sell fresh products, such as locally roasted coffee, jams, pastry, seasonal fruit and vegetables, olives and much more. Pure Boland runs an initiative called 'Pure Kind' which supports school children and encourages them to sell their products.

Montague Village Market
Head to the park opposite the tourism bureau for this exciting, vibrant and bustling arts, crafts and food market. Visit between 08:30am and 12:30pm every Saturday to meet friendly locals, tuck into English breakfasts, coffee, cakes, jams, pickles, olive oil, bread, baked goods and free range meat. The stalls also sell crafts, bric-a-brac, antiques, vintage goods and furniture.

Robertson Farmers market
Arrive early at this delightful farmers market for coffee or breakfast, or enjoy a cup of java whilst your kids play in a secured play area.
