Athlone Stadium is a stadium in Athlone on the Cape Flats in Cape Town, South Africa.
The Athlone Stadium is situated along Klipfontein Road in Bridgetown, Athlone
Travelling on the N2 freeway from Cape Town towards Somerset West
Take the Jan Smuts Drive turnoff towards Strandfontein, just before you get to the Athlone Power Station.
Continue in this direction past the Athlone Tech on your left, and Spes Bona High School on your right hand side.
When you get to a set of traffic lights, at the Jan Smuts Drive / Klipfontein Rd intersection, turn to the left.
Continue past the Joseph Stone Auditorium to the 2nd intersection.
Turn left and continue around a bend in the road.
The entrance to the stadium will be on your right hand side.
The stadium is used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of Ajax Cape Town and Santos Cape Town.
The stadium holds 30,000 people and was built in 1972.
Athlone stadium is currently undergoing extensive upgrades in the lead up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
The venue will act as a main training venue in Cape Town, and further upgrades at an estimated cost of R297 million have already begun.
