5 for Change Charity Fundraiser

The black tie affair putting the fun back in fundraiser

If you’re looking to help make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate in Cape Town, look no further! The 5 For Change annual black tie charity gala not only raises awareness about worthy causes, but is also a genuine jam where generous philanthropists can have a phat jol, sipping Champagne, receiving prizes, boogying to one of SA’s hottest band’s playing live and more. The sixth annual event is to be held on Saturday, 15 July 2017 at the iconic Cape Town City Hall.

Each year founders Ross McKernan and Adriaan Dippenaar select and showcase five inspiring organisations. The young professionals and entrepreneurs are chosen for their  inspiring approach to adding value and making a difference in the lives of others. The event creates a platform for these aspiring entrepreneurs to be assisted in their venture to bring about social change.

Accordingly, The 5 For Change event invites guests to enjoy a glamorous black tie affair with drinks, canapés and entertainment by a few lekker local bands, while raising funds and awareness for five inspiring social movements. Guests can simply enjoy the glitzy evening knowing that all profits and donations are split evenly amongst the charities

BENEFICIARIES FOR THE 2017 5 FOR CHANGE CHARITY FUNDRAISER BLACK TIE BALL

The five chosen beneficiaries have been selected for the unique, innovative techniques they employ to change the status quo.

  • Ikhaya Le Langa – Ikhaya Le Langa (Home of the Sun) is a social enterprise committed to the revitalization of Langa and empowerment of its people through job creation and socio-economic development. Ikhaya’s goal is to make Langa cleaner, greener and safer in order to optimise conditions for enterprises and to create hundreds of jobs for its residents, particularly its youth. This is accomplished primarily through tourism, enterprise and entrepreneur development and community partnerships.

  • Numeric –  Numeric is on a mission to help young South Africans excel in maths by providing after-school maths interventions to primary school children and by training high-quality maths teachers for the public school system. They currently operate 90 after-school programs in 42 partner schools in Cape Town and Johannesburg with 100 active coaches and 2200 participating learners as well as a Teaching Academy based in Cape Town where they are training 20 new maths teachers.

  • Sunshine Cinema – Sunshine Cinema is a mobile cinema that converts solar power into social impact. Through community screenings of various types of dynamic educational and interactive content, highlighting critical societal issues and social enterprise, workshops and community partnerships, they address social and environmental challenges. Since 2013, Sunshine Cinema has screened to over 6000 audience members across Southern Africa.

  • Dine With Khayelitsha – Dine With is a platform that bridges the gap between townships and cities, empowers hosts, showcase township food and hospitality and ignites social dialogue. Since 2015, Dine With has hosted dinners in 102 township households and facilitated conversations on a range of issues for over 800 diverse guests. These dinners gather people from all corners of the earth and challenge generations of separation and stereotypes through food and friendship.

  • Community Keepers – Community Keepers aims to improve the social and emotional well-being of learners and create supportive school communities where learning and development can prosper. Community Keepers provides psychological and social services at schools through qualified professionals, including counsellors, psychologists and social workers. Implemented in partnership with schools, educators and parents, Community Keepers’ model has reached 6500 learners, 4 800 parents/guardians and 380 educators since its founding in 2008.

Aside from its strong philanthropic emphasis, 5 For Change also brings together leaders and professionals from across all sects, connecting inspiring social enterprises with top business minds. Guests also get to enjoy the glitzy evening knowing that all profits and donations are split evenly amongst these charities.
