Wolfkop holiday specials: glamp for up to 50% less

Plus 9 activities also at half-price: bodyboard the Olifants, hike, see rock paintings and more

Wolfkop Camping Villages and Nature Reserve are close to Citrusdal in the Cederberg, a World Heritage site. The camps are set up on the banks of the Olifants River, which has water so clean you can drink it. There, you’re immersed in a wealth of natural beauty – and now Capetownmagazine.com readers have access to all that at half its usual price (which means from only R250 per person!).

Visit during the week, from Sunday to Thursday night, and it will only cost R250 per person on this special (minimum of two people). Stay over the weekend, and it will cost R350 per person (minimum of six people for two nights). This offer is also available for Wolfkop Nature Reserve’s cottages, which means week-night bookings will only cost R300 per person (minimum of 4 people required). In addition to that, all activities are also at half price.

WOLFKOP SUITS FAMILIES, FRIENDS AND GROUPS

There are six camping villages. Two have been recently refurbished: the relaxed and understated camp Biesievlak, and the more luxurious glamping version Golden Valley. Biesievlak is spread along a 200-metre stretch of the Olifants River (ideal for cooling down – the Cederberg can get scorching). There are 8 villas that can each sleep a maximum of 8 people, and the area behind these has a nice wide lawn on which kids love to run.

Golden Valley is made up of 10 villas that can sleep up to six people each. Each villa offers more privacy than Biesievlak, fully equipped kitchens dedicated to the space, as well as ablutions and firepits. One of the most charming elements of these villas is that each has its own platform on the river.

DO MORE FOR LESS: ACTIVITIES ARE HALF-PRICE

There’s so much to do in the area and at Wolfkop Nature Reserve. Primarily, there’s the Olifants River, which has water so pure you can drink it. Bodyboarding down it is one of the newest activities and it’s gorgeous, and safe enough for children to do. Owner Werner Rontgen says the water is calm and flat for 95% of the river and the remaining rapids are gentle enough to not be a risk.

Other activities are hiking the 20km trail on the reserve (which can only be done with a guide), mountain biking and trail running, fly fishing, wine and gin tasting, as well as tea tasting, an astronomy activity and also a 4x4 excursion.

HIKE PRISTINE WOLFKOP NATURE RESERVE

The nature reserve is made up of 450 hectares, and has never been farmed. It’s the same as it was 400 years ago, says Werner. The land has incredible biodiversity both in terms of  wildlife and plants – go in flower season, and the ground will be a riot of daisy displays. There are small buck, tortoises, porcupines and even a leopard family is resident on the property, says Rontgen. There’s also a breeding pair of Verreaux eagles.

Hikers can only access the land if they’re part of a guided hiking group, which means numbers on the reserve are always kept to a minimum, ensuring peace and quiet and solitude, which is what people go there for, says Rontgen.

THERE ARE FIVE COTTAGES IN THE RESERVE

In the reserve, the cottages are built on the side of a hill with 180° views of the Olifants River Valley below. They are 200 metres apart from each other, ensuring total privacy. They range from one-bedroom to five-bedroom buildings, and all have a fireplace, aircon, and a braai area and jacuzzi outside.

But wherever you stay, whether in a camp on the banks of the river or a cottage up on the mountain, Wolfkop’s options offer an escape from daily life that will rejuvenate you and give great memories of quality time spent with friends or family. But book now, it fills up quickly at Wolfkop Camping Villages and Nature Reserve.
