West Coast Flower Trip with Ceres Rail Company

All aboard the Ceres express! Get some fresh Ceres Valley air and see the famous flowers of the West Coast on a luxury steam train journey and an all-inclusive weekend in Graafwater

Now this is the way to travel! Jump on board for an all-inclusive weekend in the Ceres region. Take in the beautiful views of the West Coast’s wild flowers in bloom as you go through the Cape for a magical rail experience on the Ceres steam train.

Setting off from the Royal Cape Yacht Club at 8am on Friday, 18 August 2017, the train will chug along through to Graafwater, a little town just inland from the ocean on the West Coast. Spend Saturday sightseeing on a train ride to the charming town of Klawer and back again, and then passengers will return by train to the Royal Yacht Club in Cape Town on Sunday, 20 August 2017.

Luxury travel
Sit back in a luxury lounge car with large windows to enjoy the scenic views as the train passes magnificent carpets of wild flowers that the West Coast is famous for. Travel in comfort with plenty of space to relax with family and friends, as you go on a gorgeous inland route through Ceres. There’s a bar car where drinks are served by friendly staff to keep you refreshed throughout the train trip. Embrace the romance of a rail trip on a steam train pulled by two twin locomotives. For those less familiar with the term (and we do not blame you), locomotives are engines for trains, and two attached, one behind the other, means extra pulling power.

Rest assured
When you arrive in Graafwater, you will be transferred by bus to either the comfortable and charming Clanwilliam Hotel or to the cosy, quaint Lamberts Bay Hotel. You choose which one you would like to stay at to rejuvenate and relax. Passengers who do not indicate their preference will be allocated to one or the other; both are delightful so it will be great either way. The fantastic weekend package includes full board as well as breakfast and dinner at the hotels.

Blooming marvelous
On Saturday morning, you’ll be transferred back to Graafwater to board the train to Klawer, where you'll have another scenic journey and chance to view the flowers in all their glory. Passengers will spend a couple of hours exploring the area before being treated to lunch, courtesy of the Ceres Rail Company. Afterwards, the buses will arrive in Klawer to take you back to your hotel. Come Sunday morning, the train from Graafwater will take you back to Cape Town, where you’ll arrive at the Royal Cape Yacht Club at approximately 7pm.

If you love this slightly different way of travelling and miss this weekend, you don’t have to stick to the Cape Town Metrorail; there are various other out-of-town train trips you can take, like the magical Forgotten Route Train Tour to Matjiesfontein.

The West Coast and the gorgeous Ceres Valley is famed for its wild flowers, and we definitely agree that it is a sight to behold. If you’re looking for another excuse to head out there for a bit, why not try cherry picking in Ceres?
