Don’t play with knives! This is probably something your parents drummed into your head growing up, and it’s a good thing, too. However, this Weapon Fighting Seminar on the mornings of Saturday, 26 and Sunday, 27 August 2017 gives you a chance to (sort of) ditch this rule and get down to handling some sharp weapons – safely and carefully of course. Head to Camp Fight fitness studio near Blouberg Beach and learn the art of fighting with weapons as well as how to defend yourself against them, whether armed or unarmed. It’s sure to be an empowering experience.
The workshop is founded on the full-contact weapon fighting and self-defense system called Armed Combat and Tactics (A.C.T), which is a form of Mixed Martial Arts and is also the name of the group of teachers, based in Cape Town, who teach it. Interestingly, A.C.T. is anti-knives, so weapon fighting is a basis for getting to the point where you can handle yourself in a fight without the need for weapons and against weapons being pointed towards you. It will be lead by Ryan Davies, head of South Africa’s A.C.T., so you know you are in expert and safe hands.
This workshop lays the foundation you need to become a combat pro by building up your strength and confidence in using knives. In other words, this is a beginner seminar and you’ll need to keep going to quite a few more classes before you decide to go wild with knives. As the organisers stress, there are no shortcuts when it comes to strength and mastering these skills!
The A.C.T. crew also champions this kind of training as a great way to build self-confidence, gain physical power, feel safe, and respect both other people and dangerous weapons.
