An Evening of Vintage and Venison

Tuck into a delicious meal with a well-aged glass of wine

Franschhoek is a stunning Winelands town found an hour and a half outside of Cape Town. The town is filled with quaint shops, adorable coffee spots and friendly locals. The town is surrounded by picturesque wine farms, most of which date back at least 100 years. On Friday, 25 August 2017, La Motte Wine Estate is hosting a very unique evening filled with vintage wine that will accompany a five-course venison menu.

La Motte was purchased by the Rupert family in 1970. This historic wine farm was inherited by Rupert’s daughter, Hanneli Rupert-Koegelenberg, an international opera singer. Since then, the estate has grown and developed; the decor has changed, the restaurants have been revamped, but the wine has maintained the same sensational quality. The farm was purchased in 1709 by Pierre Joubert who is believed to have named it after the town of his birth; La Motte d’Aigues. The first vines were planted in 1752, and the estate has been making wine ever since!

The evening of vintage wine and venison dinner will take place at the Pierneef à La Motte Restaurant on the La Motte wine farm. The five-course menu was developed by the Chef de Cuisine, Michelle Theron, to perfectly flaunt the flavours of Franschhoek and the best venison in the country. To complete this culinary experience, the Cellarmaster Edmund Terblanche, has gone to great lengths to find the perfect vintage from the La Motte Vinoteque to pair with each and every course Theron has created. The menu will feature fresh-from-the-farm ingredients and locally sourced venison as a large part of Pierneef à La Motte’s food ethos is freshness and authenticity.
