Once-in-a-lifetime exhibition of Esther ...
On from February to August 2024; 100+ artworks
American-based Zombie Joe’s Underground (ZJU) Theatre Group is co-producing their cult live horror show Urban Death in South Africa for the first time ever. To thrill and chill local audiences, ZJU has teamed up with The Mechanicals in Cape Town. In the US, ZJU is in its 21st season of delivering award-winning, groundbreaking and original theatre to Los Angeles and New York audiences. Director and show co-creator Jana Wimer is in Cape Town to collaborate with an all-South African cast and create a unique and culturally relevant Mzansi version of Urban Death.
Urban Death Show Dates and Times
The South African cast includes veterans and newcomers and embraces Mzanzi’s cultural diversity from City Bowl to Samora Machel, exposing local audiences to an exciting mix of storytelling talents. The 10 players will, in an hour, take theatre-goers on a fast-paced thrill ride filled with terror, amusement, shock, poignancy and plenty of nervous laugher scattered throughout. Just like after a heart-stopping ride on a rollercoaster, audiences will want to come back for more.
The show is entirely without dialogue, thus eliminating potential language barriers and setting the stage for a visceral experience. The viewer’s imagination is stimulated, intrigued and amused. ZJU’s trademark physical theatre style is unlike anything Cape Town audiences have seen before.
