The Quarterdeck Restaurant is situated in the Portswood Hotel in the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. The Restaurant is located in an original section of the Breakwater Convict Station, which was built in 1860. Rich in heritage and history, the restaurant specialises in Traditional Cape Malay Cooking.
Influenced by Indian cuisine, Cape Malay dishes are aromatic and spicy with recipes such as samoosas, curries and rotis, which are passed down from generation to generation.
Experience executive Chef Craig Paulse’s feast and be taken on a culinary journey, to experience the tastes that make Cape Malay food and the traditional spitbraai so unique.
For those looking for a Saturday evening treat, the Quarterdeck restaurant offers a Cape Malay Potjiekos treat on the last Saturday of every Month.
Potjiekos - literally meaning pot food - has been part of South Africa’s culture for many centuries. Today, cooking up a potjie has evolved into a unique South African social happening, a tradition almost as popular as the legendary braai.
Family and friends are all invited and can settle around the fire with the softly bubbling potjie, chatting, enjoying a drink and having a great time, while the aroma escaping from the potjie does its work.
At just R65 per person the Portswood Hotel invites guests to experience this African tradition in the comfort of the Quarterdeck Restaurant on the last Saturday of every month between 18:00 and 22:00.
The special runs until March 2010, so make sure you take family and friends along for a cultural Saturday evening.
If you’re looking for a restaurant for a family lunch on a Sunday – or a perfect place to have a spitbraai in Cape Town, then look no further than the Quartdeck Restaurant.
