Boost Your Instagram Skills

Learn basic photography skills at a venue with lots of photo opportunities

Interested in photography or want to learn more tricks on your DSLR? Or do you want to become the next Instagram superstar? Learn how to use your camera (without the automatic setting) at this basics photography workshop hosted at Intaka Island in Century City 13 July–10 August 2019.

THE PERFECT PICTURE
The four-week course will cover both theory and practical learning – as it’s hosted at Intaka Island, there will be awesome opportunities to do the practical exercises outdoors to fully understand the theory. 

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
Host, photographer and former Communications and Training Manager, Steff Hughes, will cover the following topics:

  • Getting to know your camera
  • The exposure triangle: ISO, Shutter, Aperture
  • Getting a good exposure and using the histogram
  • Shooting in RAW vs JPEG 
  • Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority or Manual mode – what they are and when to use them
  • Understanding light
  • Understanding depth of field
  • Slowing down or freezing movement
  • Elements of good composition (rule of thirds, the golden section, etc)
  • Analysing your images (what went wrong, what worked, what do you want to do next)

ADDITIONAL SKILLS
Steff is also be hosting an Introduction to Lightroom Course on 24 August 2019. This course teaches photographers how to quickly and easily edit and import their images, and will cost R850pp for the afternoon. 

TICKETS TO THE BASIC PHOTOGRAPHY COURSE
Tickets cost R3150pp for a comprehensive four-session course. The fee includes a customised set of course notes, tea and coffee and entrance to into Intaka Island for every session.
