Weather permitting, there’s never a bad day to soar off a mountain top over the breathtaking landscape of Cape Town. But thanks to respected local adventure company Para Taxi, there is now a particularly good day to do it: the high-flying tour operator is offering R100 off the normal price of tandem paragliding to any CapeTownMagazine.com reader who books a flying experience for a Wednesday (just mention our publication when you call).
This great deal makes the mid-week the ultimate time to coast through the Mother City’s airspace and it keeps pockets that much fuller. Of course, the awe-inspiring experience of drifting through the sky with the city’s beaches, mountain peaks, greenery and urban sprawl beneath your feet is worth a whole heap, but you’ll likely bob along a little lighter with the knowledge that you’re saving a good couple of bucks.
Para Taxi launches from a number of different sites depending on the weather, including Lion’s Head, Signal Hill, Sir Lowry’s Pass or even Hermanus. Regardless of which route you conquer though, you are guaranteed a one-of-a-kind adventure that yields unrivalled views (some of the sites even allow for hovering over the ocean) and no doubt will make you feel as liberated and care-free as a bird.
What’s more, the company is the only one of its kind in Africa to claim a Fair Trade in Tourism certification in its field, so you can rest assured that from take-off to landing, you’re in good, eco-conscious hands. And, as a bonus, anyone can cash in on the deal. Because tandem paragliding is, in fact, quite a calm, docile activity, people of nearly any age and fitness level can experience the joy of flight.
Paragliding is, according to Jan de Jager, the passionate founder of Para Taxi, the best natural and most organic adrenalin feeling you’ll ever experience, and undoubtedly, the fact that you’re saving some cash on a Wednesday will elevate your spirits even more.

Tandem paragliding with Para Taxi normally costs R1500/p, but with the CapeTownMagazine.com Wednesday special, it goes for R1300/p; in-flight photos and videos taken with a GoPro camera are priced at an additional R300.
Booking is essential and it’s recommended you do so at least three days in advance. Do note, all bookings are weather dependent.
To book, visit Para Taxi’s website or call +27 (0)82 966 2047 (if you book by phone, be sure to have cash on you on the day, and remember to mention CapeTownMagazine.com).
