Top UK Newspaper Lists Cape Town as a Must-Visit City for 2009

The UK's Times newspaper has included Cape Town in their top ten cities to visit in 2009

If you’re not one of the
fortunate few who live in Cape Town, then make it your mission in 2009 to plan a trip to this all-in-one city.

It’s the place to be, and we’re pleased to note that the UK’s Times newspaper echoes our sentiments, naming Cape Town in their Top 10 cities to visit in 2009.

The selection was made in conjunction with bestselling guidebook publisher, DK Eyewitness Travel.

“Cape Town looks set to raise its tourist game in 2009 as it gears up for the sporting events of the following year. Add this to the world famous vista, outdoor activities, and affordable prices due to the exchange rate, and it’s a good time to visit,” says the Times.

The newspaper cited the hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup as the driving force behind some great new attractions and developments in the city.

An example of these developments is the upgrade that the Cape Town Station is undergoing, which is due to be complete towards the end of 2009.

The Times also made mention of the new One&Only Cape Town luxury resort, as a major attraction for the city and opened in April 2009.

The One&Only resorts, run by South African hotel magnate Sol Kerzner, are amongst some of the most luxurious in the world, having won awards such as the Conde Nast Readers' Choice Award in 2008.

This resort will be centrally situated in the V&A Waterfront. (Read about our great V&A Waterfront accommodation specials).

Vilnius (the Lithuanian capital), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Gdansk (Poland), Seattle (USA), Bristol (Britain), Fez (Morocco), Washington DC (USA), Copenhagen (Denmark) and Vienna (Austria) are the other cities that appear on the Top 10 Cities list published by the Times.

Cape Town Tourism released research in early January 2009 that showed that international arrivals in Cape Town are expected to be steady throughout the year, with the city continuing to represent excellent value-for-money for international visitors.
