The Foundation, founded in 1997, is a non-profit organisation based in Cape Town whose programmes are designed to develop and empower youth in the townships and contribute to community building efforts as a mechanism to reduce the levels of crime and violence in these areas and to give these children a brighter future.

Our mission statement
of “weaving a barrier against violence” is achieved by providing educational and cultural activities that offer students healthy alternatives to crime, drugs, sex, idleness and negative influences and unlocks their creative talent with the aim of giving them opportunities to become future leaders, entrepreneurs and well rounded citizens in a global society.

Our programmes
currently reach over 1,000 children every week.

Operating in various townships
of the Western Cape, each after school centre hosts approximately 200 children per day keeping the children off the streets and involved in healthy, focused activities from Monday to Thursday.

Nutrition plays and important part in
this programme with each child receiving a lunch every day. Children learn life skills, creative arts including drama, dance, fine arts and music; as well as, literacy, numeracy, and sport.

The foundation’s
Greening and Environmental Programme work with the children and the community focussing on beautifying the township schools, teaching respect for the environment, growing vegetable gardens and establishing environmental clubs.

Children are taught plant propagation and cover issues like global warming, pollution and the importance of recycling. Students learn a greater sense of respect and pride for their natural environment, poverty alleviation and future sustainability.
