Stay for less at this colonial gem in Riebeek Kasteel
Fit for a queen and king, the Royal Hotel’s regal accommodation is now available at country bumpkin rates. From Sunday to Thursday between Sunday, 1 September and Thursday, 31 October 2013, the old world country outpost is offering guests an amazing package deal for a bargain price. With the mention of CapeTownMagazine.com, visitors get two nights accommodation, two breakfasts, two afternoon teas and one five-course dinner at a discount rate of R998 per person sharing (the special is not valid for singles).
Enfolded in the rolling vineyards and olive groves of scenic Riebeek Kasteel, the charming lodging – it’s just over an hour from Cape Town – is the perfect place to unwind from the hustle and bustle of city life or to simply relax amidst pure, unadulterated beauty.
Dating back to the 19th century, the rambling property and venerable façade are as famous for their age as they are for housing the longest stoep south of the Limpopo (an area best enjoyed with a goblet of the hotel’s signature gin and tonic). Acclaimed South African politicians, like Paul Kruger and Jan Smuts, are said to have graced its halls, and the vast veranda out front is still decorated like the living room of an explorer from long past - think antique chairs, a birdcage, battered suitcases, palm fronds and more.
Though, the colonial treasure’s dignified charm isn’t without modern convenience. Each of the hotel’s rooms boasts a sumptuous bed, high white ceilings and deep carpeting. Not to mention, all of the standard amenities that travellers have come to expect are present and accounted for: an appetising pool, an in-room mini-fridge and an in-house restaurant primed to plate everything from dinner to high tea.
What’s more, the surrounding artistic community and the nearby wineries and farms offer plenty to do for those too malcontent to merely languish on the comfy poolside loungers.
