Jonathan Butler Concerts South Africa

Grammy-nominated jazz and gospel singer takes to the stage to perform three Mzansi shows this September

Cape Town-born musical sensation Jonathan Butler returns to the motherland this September 2013 to launch his new gospel-contemporary jazz album, “Grace and Mercy”, in Johannesburg and Pretoria (the Cape Town show has been postponed due to gang violence). Lauded as an icon in South Africa and respected as a phenomenal singer-songwriter outside of it, Butler, who now lives in the US, looks to once more bring fans to their feet in the country of his birth with both smooth jazz tracks of past and hits off his recently launched (2012) Christian music record.

Dates for Jonathan Butler Concerts in South Africa

  • Pretoria concert, 24 September 2013: Heritage Day concert at Eersterust Soccer Stadium in Pretoria. Show starts at 6:30pm. Supporting acts include Freeborn and other local artists.
  • Cape Town concert, May 2014: Exact date and venue to be announced. Subscribe to our newsletter for updates.
  • Johannesburg concert, 28 September 2013: Johannesburg concert at Rhema Auditorium in Randburg. Show starts at 7pm. The supporting act is Freeborn.

Forever famous locally as both a teen superstar and as the first black artist to have a song played on a radio station during Apartheid, Butler has also done well to establish himself on a world stage. His singles ‘Lies’ and ‘Going Home’ were nominated for Grammy awards, his recordings have risen to top spots on the Billboard charts and he’s toured the globe with Kirk Whalum, Dave Koz and Ruby Turner.

While in South Africa, the 51-year-old musician will also launch the Jonathan Butler Foundation, a self-funded organisation committed to providing children vulnerable to substance abuse with access to music and arts education.
