Durban property is hot, HOT, HOT! Huge development plans in pipeline

The new company, has a vision: Create and build a new, innovative and best-of-breed property development business.

A major new property development company, aiming to create huge "landmark" projects in Durban and the province, has been formed.

Neels Brink, the respected property planner and developer whose name will be forever linked with the city's showcase uShaka Marine World, has been named as the managing director.

"Our focus will be on big projects in the resort and hotel sector," said Brink, who until the end of last month was the resorts development director at Moreland Developments.

While at Moreland, Brink played a "key role in unblocking the development impasse that had frustrated new investment from flowing into Durban's Point Waterfront precinct", a statement said.

Brink was instrumental in the planning and development of the R730-million uShaka marine park tourist attraction.

Through his association with Moreland, he was directly involved in the planning and development of many local landmark projects: the Mount Edgecombe Country Club estates, the Umhlanga Ridge precinct, the Africa KZN-owned Sibaya Casino precinct, and the world-famous Zimbali Coastal Resort near Ballito.

And now that he has joined the new privately-held property development company - Metallon Properties - he is looking forward to bringing even more landmark developments to the region.

The new company, whose "vision is to create and build a new, innovative and best-of-breed property development business", will be chaired by Khumalo, who is also chairperson of Metallon Corporation, the South African resources and financial services group. A majority black-owned company, the new business will form part of Khumalo's corporate stable.

The company already has several properties being developed, including the R250-million, five-star Zimbali Cradle Hotel at the famous Zimbali Coastal Resort, as well as office premises in Umhlanga Ridge and Sandton.

Set in pristine coastal dune bush and running right down to the high-water mark, the Cradle Hotel will be the only "true beach hotel" in the country. It is due to be finished by the middle of next year.
