Up, up and away!
Last Updated: 09 January 2017
The Mother City might be stereotyped as South Africa’s most laid-back city, but Cape Town International Airport is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to service delivery and punctuality. It was recently named as the leading airport in Africa for 2012 at the World Airport Awards.
Cape Town International Airport is the second largest airport in SA. It is a major gateway for tourism in the country; seeing millions of visitors arriving in the Mother City annually.

New data released by UK analysts, OAG, indicated that in 2016, 86,06% of the flights arriving or departing at the Cape Town International Airport did so within 15-minutes of their scheduled time. This ensured that the Mother City’s airport received the highest rating of all SA airports and featured sixth on OAG’s global medium airport punctuality list.
Johannesburg and Durban followed closely. Durban’s King Shaka International Airport came in second place for the most punctual airport in SA with a remarkable 86,03% score.. Durban was placed 10th in the world on OAG’s small airport punctuality list. OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg featured as the third most punctual airport in SA with 84,32% and occupied eighth position globally on OAG’s large airport punctuality list.
