Sange Releases Debut Album
This dynamic songstress brings new meaning to Afro-pop, Afro-jazz and South African music
After only recently releasing her debut album, Xola, South African born songstress Sange is already making waves.
She had President Jacob Zuma and Helen Zille up and dancing to her cool beats at the World Economic Forum where she recently had the honour of performing.
Sange’s music is receiving a lot of attention and she has enjoyed radio airplay on radio stations such as Umhlobo Wenene, Heart 104.9, Radio 2000 and SA FM. She has also been featured on TV program Hectic 99 on SABC2 and has also had several interviews with radio stations such as Radio Zibonele and Valley FM.
Vocalist, dancer, drummer, percussionist and songwriter Neliswa Sampi Mxunyelwa, or Sange, was born in Worcester in 1979 and started singing at the age of 8.
Her stage name Sange, means hug and reflects her performance presence. Sange aims to embrace her audience by healing their souls through her music.
Before embarking on a solo career Sange was the lead vocalist for recording group Inkokheli. With them, Sange performed extensively in venues such as G Spot, V & A Hotel, Green Dolphin, Manenbergs’ Jazz Café, Spier, as well as parliament private functions.
