We’ve rounded up some amazing ways to spoil our moms on Mother’s Day this year. There are snazzy lunches, a marimba show, curious tastings (from wine to mead) – and that’s just the start. Here are 10+ things to do this Mother’s Day.
Everyone gets their mom flowers on Mother’s Day – why not let her make her own bouquet instead? Wild about Flowers is hosting a workshop at Montebello Design Studio in Newlands. The experience includes creating your own bouquet and floral care tips, as well as mimosas and other refreshments.

Looking for a wine tasting that’s a little different? Klein Roosboom is a boutique winery where you can do a tasting in one of six themed caves, like The Kitchen or Versaille. Listen to the stories of the farm’s vines and wines, then have lunch or go for a picnic.

Just an hour out of Cape Town lies Cheverells Farm, a working apple farm with a light-soaked country café. The Cheverells Farm Shed has stunning views of the rolling green hills and surrounding orchards. Go for a drive and have breakfast there, or order the special set menu and get a free glass of bubbly. Booking is essential at Cheverells Farm.

Listen to the magical sounds of Woodworx Marimbas at this annual event. The Cape Town Marimba Festival, a joint venture between the Cape Town Big Band Jazz Festival and Woodworx Marimbas, has been showcasing marimbas at the Baxter Concert Hall since 2009. Watch schools from around Cape Town perform and jive with your mama.

It’s not beer, wine, or gin…it's mead. Mead is an ancient alcoholic beverage made from honey, water and yeast. It’s been drunk by many cultures for aeons, including the Khoi San, and Cape Town Meadery is bringing it to the Mother City. A tasting includes 10 meads, from sparkling mead to lager, and you’ll also get to meet the meadmaker and learn more about its history.

Get creative at a watercolour workshop. Hosted by local artist Dayna-Gay Tate, guests will be treated to a demo session, materials and one-on-one guidance in creating a botanical watercolour painting. The workshop will be held at Oranjezicht City Farm, under a pergola in the garden, and includes tea and snacks.

Milk on the Beach in Onrus in the ultimate day trip destination: this restaurant is bright and colourful, sits right on the beach and overlooks both Onrus lagoon and the surrounding mountains. Take mom for breakfast on Mother's Day and receive a free mimosa at Milk on the Beach.

Dine in a historic and opulent hotel in the city centre. Taj Cape Town has mesmerising accents, from marble columns to blown-glass chandeliers, making it the perfect eloquent spot for a Mother’s Day lunch. This steampunk steakhouse is for the mom that doesn't mess around with her meat. Char'd Grill serves all kinds of rare cuts that you wouldn't find elsewhere (like the caveman rib) and has a floor-to-ceiling dry-ageing glass room. This Mother's Day, Char'd is offering a beer and burger special: a burger, chips and half pint of Newlands Weiss will cost R95 (valid from 12pm to 3pm). Bring some magic into your mom’s world with a fun-filled evening packed with laughter. The “Don’t Forget It’s Mother’s Day” magic show at The Galloway Theatre will have a modern-day escape artist, a comedy magician with a unique form of sleight-of-hand and mind-boggling magic and fantastic feats. The show will be hosted by Sebastiano Olla.

Join Stellenbosch on Foot for a historical tour of the Eikestad. The town is filled with stunning art, and you’ll learn elements of its history, such as where Simon van der Stel set up camp in the Eerste Rivier and why the river is called that. The tour includes prime examples of Cape Dutch architecture, and stories about the town’s colorful inhabitants over the past three centuries.
