Get groovy and celebrate International Jazz Day (on 30th April 2018) with the Jazz in the Native Yards concert on 29 April 2018. Benjamin Jephta Elektrik band is presented to you by Jazz in the Native Yards, Concerts SA, and forms part of the 14th annual SAJE Jazz conference.
Winning the 2017 Standard Bank Young Artist of The Year for Jazz, Benjamin Jephta has made a name for himself in the industry. He is dubbed as South Africa's premier double bass and electric bass player. Mixing his love for jazz with hip-hip, rock music and electronic, he is able to merge the 21st century’s pop culture with the iconic sound and groove of jazz music.
Having performed with industry giants like Sibongile Khumalo, Jimmy Dlulu, Hugh Masekela and Simphiwe Dana, Benjamin Jephta is a force to be reckoned with. His debut album has been nominated for a Metro FM and SAMA Award. At this event he will be performing with Keenan Ahrends on the guitar, Jonno Sweetman on the drums, Justin Bellairs on the alto sax and Zeke le Grange as the tenor sax.
Jazz in the Native Yards, is a series of live jazz performances to promote live jazz listenings in the various townships in the Western Cape. This initiative creates memories in the cultural hub of Guga S’thebe in Langa, and the Benjamin Jeptha Elektrik edition will be hosted at Kwa Sec NY 138 in Gugulethu. A jazz road trip from Muizenberg via Khayelitsha to Stellenbosch will be created. Giving Patrons an intimate experience at these jazz sessions.
