The girl who decided to spend her 21st birthday serving the young.
The long awaited coming-of-age party most people have is for their 21st birthday. Some people plan it a year in advance while others celebrate it by saving up to travel the world. Most of the time it is a splurge and utterly self-indulgent. I mean why not, it’s your 21st birthday right? Most of us get motherless and tend to forget certain parts of the the special evening. You gear your teen and young-adult years up for this momentous occasion only to have it gone; done and dusted within a matter of hours.
Well there is one young lady who’s idea of the perfect 21st was something extraordinary, selfless and so heart-warming that it caught the attention of philanthropists all over the city. Insaaf Gaidien decided that for her 21st she would take all the savings for the party her parent assumed they were going to have to plan, and instead donated it to the Rock A Bye Baby House for abandoned babies. It serves as a safe haven or halfway house for babies who are abandoned. The Rock A Bye Baby staff care and nurture these babies until they are adopted.
Insaaf says, " I wanted to break the barrier when it came to 21st parties and the cycle of throwing the party and your parents end up complaining and some guests as well, thats when I decided to donante the savings I accumulated myself to the Rock A Baby House. This is is not just my plce of work, but my second home."
When asked what her family and friends reactions were to the decision she had made, her response was, "My friends had a bewildered look on their faces and was shocked that there would be no party, my family however was astonished as well but is very proud of me.
Rock A Bye Baby House is in much need of donations and the roof needs to be replaced, especially with the winter chill setting in, these babies need to be in a warm secure environment. Insaaf urges all to donate as much as they can, be it money or toiletries, medication or clothes for the babies, even your time would be much appreciated, as these are infants who needs that human connection, the more hands to help the more lives will be touched.
It is now with great pleasure and privilege that we give Insaaf Gaidien the title of CapeTownMagHero!
