Hermanus Guest House has a 30% off Local is Lekker special throughout the year, with some added boosters – like the mid-week special – that mean you can spoil yourself with a luxe escape at a fraction of what it usually costs.

Firstly, it offers boutique accommodation. It has 19 rooms, 11 in the main building, and eight suites built alongside a long, slim, cool pool under a tree. Rooms in the main house are more luxurious and quirky – acid and lemon yellows, electric blues, exposed brick, the occasional Tretchikoff print and large paintings – and most have incredible views of the sea. There are also two romantic rooms ideal for honeymooners, with spa jet baths.

Hermanus Guest House is central (you can walk into town in 10 to 15 minutes), and has one of the best views of the coast. The hotel only serves breakfast, but the town has many excellent restaurants close by. It’s also opposite Ficks tidal pool and the fantastic pinchos restaurant and bar that’s tucked into the cliffs above it (Ficks Pinchos & Wine).

Hermanus is also surrounded by some of South Africa’s top wine farms and the beautiful Hemel-en-Aarde valley is close by. Or stay home and wait for the show the sea will surely provide, of whales breaching and huge pods of dolphins tracking for fish. The outdoor offering is also big in the area. The Overberg region is known for its spectacular nature on land, through which one can hike or mountain bike, and the sea, where you can canoe, dive and snorkel – and these are just a few of the options.

Children from the age of 8 years and older are welcome at Hermanus Boutique Guest House. There’s one family suite in the main section, made up of two luxurious rooms with interleading doors, and also two standard deluxe rooms with day beds.

The Local is Lekker discount offers 30% off the room rack rate. Then there is also the mid-week special (Sunday-Thursday), which takes an additional 15% off the rate. In addition to this, pensioners get an additional 5%. This means that prices for rooms can drop as low as R1 550 per room.

For wine routes, look at the Elgin, Botrivier and Hermanus routes.
Ficks Pinchos & Wine is straight across the road from the guest house.
For restaurants, ask the front-of-house staff to recommend some (try Burgundy Restaurant, for abalone), and for things to do, start with this list
