Make a plan. This is what former President Thabo Mbeki urged us to do to solve some of our country’s education problems at the first of Heavy Chefs’ Education Africa series last year. This year he’s back to challenge us some more, this time with GetSmarter’s Sam Paddock, entrepreneur and thought leader Rapelang Rabana, and Nelson Mandela Institute’s Executive Director for Education and Rural Development Kim Porteus and other educators. It promises to be a robust and thought-provoking session.
EDUCATION THEN AND NOW ON HEAVY CHEFS
In the 2018 event, Mbeki said SA’s leaders were not getting beyond the habit of calling conferences, but there was little action. He also dared the youth to become more involved in the future of their country.
This year, Heavy Chefs is partnering with the Thabo Mbeki Foundation and Discovery Business Insurance. The focus will be on insights into the current state of education, as well as a research update from the previous year’s findings. The former president, guests and educators will also speak about the impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and how South Africa can meet this challenge and succeed. This talk forms part of the Heavy Chef Inspire Sessions, which started in August and are running til December 2019.
