Cheap cocktails and a priceless view

The Sunset Deck & Restaurant at The Three Cities Peninsula Hotel is Cape Town’s best kept sunset secret, and from its perch on the edge of Sea Point, it offers a drink special from Tuesday to Sunday between 6pm and 7pm: pay for one cocktail and get one free.

Sink drinks and watch the sun explode into a profusion of pinks and oranges over the Atlantic Ocean for as little as R15 per cocktail. 

Though, even at full price, the sundowners are so affordable that the bar is practically giving the colourful concoctions away.

The cocktail menu has all the classics, such as the Margarita (R40), Strawberry Daiquiri (R40) and Pina Colada (R45), as well as drinks especially created for The Sunset Deck. For something different try the Vanilla Side Car (R30), the Berry Mint Martini (R30) or the Coconut and Orange Crush (R40). All the mixes are made with fresh, real ingredients by expert bartenders.

The deck is protected and wind-free (it’s one of the only cocktail spots in Cape Town that can boast this). The ambience is sophisticated yet relaxed with a white colour scheme, wooden banquettes for large groups and ottomans for casual perchers. The deck has been designed to allow the views to spill in, and the low glass barrier ensures this.

What’s more, The Sunset Deck forms part of the hotel’s flagship restaurant, which is situated below. So, the sundowner crowd can choose items from both the eatery’s menu as well as The Deck & Pool Skewer Menu.

The cold options on the skewer menu include a deconstructed Greek salad, prawns threaded with litchis, coconut chicken and fresh fruit skewers. Alternatively, the hot menu has choices like roasted vegetables, fish and prune kebabs, beef teriyaki and more.

For heartier fare tuck into one of the delicious options from the main menu: think beef fillet, fish and chips and roasted chicken dishes. There are also snacky options, like the Mexican quesadillas and toasted sandwiches. Plus they make a mighty fine burger.
