Agetaways Add Their Personal Touch To Your Holiday Tour
On the popular 14-day Garden Route tour, tourists get to take their time exploring the Cape
Discover Cape Town, explore the Garden Route, go on safari, or design your own adventure through this family-run tour operator, whose owner has over 30 years’ experience in the tourism industry.
AGETAWAYS IS A FAMILY-RUN AFFAIR
Agetaways founder Michaela Meiser really knows the Cape and has seen its growth as a premium tourist destination over the years.
She came here in the late 80s, after completing tourism college in Salzburg, Austria, and worked for Protea Hotels in Cape Town, Namibia and Johannesburg. She later became a ski expert for Austrian Airlines – sending South Africans skiing to Austria as part of Austrian Getaways.
Agetaways was started in 2016, after Michaela's son Andreas Meiser Kontopirakis qualified in tourism in Austria, finished his tour guide training in Cape Town, and had worked for other operators to gain experience. Michaela looks after the company logistics and Andreas, who was born in Cape Town, guides the tours and puts together the itineraries. Both travel substantially and split their time between Austria and Cape Town, and can always be reached via e-mail or contacted for personal consultations via WhatsApp.
“We are both highly trained in hospitality, and working with people and providing personal service and delivering an authentic experience is the biggest motivating factor for being in this industry,” says Michaela.
BOOK GUIDED TOURS
Agetaways has private tours for four to nine people (minimum five days) between Cape Town and the Garden Route, as far as Addo Elephant Park, the third largest national game park in South Africa.
“Our classic 14-day Garden Route tour, going all the way from Cape Town to Addo Elephant Park, is the most popular. Visitors get to take their time to explore the country with a knowledgeable guide at their side and a strong focus on sustainability and respect for the country, people and environment,” says Michaela.
For many visitors, a safari is at the pinnacle of their visit. Agetaways can organise this, visiting many of the plentiful parks along the Garden Route, including Addo Elephant Park.
OR DRIVE YOURSELF AND CHOOSE YOUR OWN ITINERARY
On the self-drive tour packages (minimum four days), you choose your preferred sights and activities and Agetaways arranges the car rental, itinerary, accommodation and suggests places to eat. Plus, they provide Whatsapp support.
There are also city-based packages: from climbing up Table Mountain to savouring the winelands and relaxing with a picnic basket at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. For more adventure, you can see the Big Five, paraglide or view the city through a helicopter tour.
Along the Garden Route, you’ll get to experience the winelands of Little Karoo (Montagu, Ashton and Robertson), the Cango Caves in Oudtshoorn, or whale watching in Hermanus. Or maybe dive with the sharks or bungee jump off one of the highest bridges in South Africa, if this is more your thing.
Check out the details and prices for their standard tours.
Note: There are no day tour package options. Tours are available from 1 October to the end of March.
HOLIDAY HOMES CLOSE TO THE BEACH
Agetaways also offers self-catering family accommodation – available all year round – in the quiet seaside village of Kommetjie. There are two modern, spacious and secure holiday homes with private terraces and common pool access at Periwinkle Place.
The holiday house has an open-plan kitchen, bar, dining room and bright open lounge area, which includes a fireplace, piano, internet TV, Playstation and a reading corner. The house opens up to the pool deck, where there is an outside shower, grill and eating area. It can accommodate up to six people.
Across from the house is the holiday apartment, which also accommodates six people and has a spacious lounge and dining area that has direct access to the pool (which is solar-heated seasonally).
